Don’t let old-wives’ tales about painful root canals stop you from seeing the dentist. The truth is that root canals are not painful; the agony you’ve heard about comes from the infected, untreated tooth.

When decay spreads to the tooth’s pulp, removal of the pulp becomes necessary to salvage the healthy exterior of the tooth. Once the pulp has been completely removed, the tooth is filled with a rubber-like substance. Then we apply a crown or filling to the newly-restored tooth for extra protection.
